Bill extends unemployment insurance for 181,500 unemployed Michigan workers
WASHINGTON, DC – Early this morning, Congressman Dale E Kildee (D-MI) voted for H.R. 4853, the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 which passed the House 277 to 148. H.R. 4853 extends federally funded unemployment benefits for 13 months retroactive to December 1, 2010, which will help 181,500 unemployed Michigan workers. It also extends the Bush tax cuts for two years. This bipartisan legislation has already passed the Senate and now goes to the President to be signed into law. Congressman Kildee released the following statement:
“Today, I voted to provide an extension of unemployment insurance and tax relief for middle class families, many of whom are struggling to stay afloat in this difficult economy. Like most bills, this bill was not perfect, but I firmly believe that the extension of unemployment benefits and middle class tax cuts included in this legislation is a big win for many families in my district and that these provisions were too important not to pass. As always, I will continue to fight to help revitalize our economy and support unemployment insurance for workers and their families who are facing difficult times,” said Congressman Kildee.
