U.S. House votes to extend health care insurance tax credit that covers many Delphi retirees, Dale Kildee says

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House has decided by a voice vote to extend the Health Coverage Tax Credit through June 30, 2012.

The tax credit covers 80 percent of health care premiums costs for those who qualify, such as thousands of Delphi retirees in mid-Michigan, according to U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee’s office.

The Flint Democrat wrote a letter in September to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Republican Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio urging the House to extend the tax credit.

Retirees over the age of 55 and who receive Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. payments are eligible for the benefit.

The legislation will be sent to the U.S. Senate.
