Kildee: Third Shift at Flint Truck Is Fantastic News

Plant to add third shift, about 750 jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, General Motors announced that it is adding a third shift to Flint Truck Assembly as well as about750 jobs. Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Automotive Caucus and a native of Flint, MI, the birthplace of G.M., hailed the announcement which he has been long anticipating.

“Today’s announcement of a third shift at Flint Truck is fantastic news for the Flint community and our workers. Just a few years ago there was a feeling of uncertainty surrounding the future of the domestic auto industry, but since that time GM has come a long way. GM has increased production and expanded its workforce, paid back all of its government loans and had a better than expected initial public offering. Today’s announcement is part of GM’s growth and return to profitability and productivity.

As I always say what America drives, drives America, and as GM increases production and expands its workforce, it is good news for our local communities our state and our entire Nation. This is an exciting day for the Flint community and is further proof that GM is well-positioned to once again be the economic engine that drives the American economy,” said Congressman Kildee.

On January 7th, Congressman Kildee met with GM CEO Dan Akerson and talked about the importance of increasing production, including at Flint Truck. This exciting announcement is the latest in a spate of good news for GM, including their better than expected initial public offering in November which raised an impressive $23.1 billion and more than halved the government’s share in the company.
