President Obama is inviting back to the White House lawmakers who want to rework the No Child Left Behind law as the administration pushes its education agenda.
The group that will meet with Obama comprises GOP Senators Mike Enzi and Lamar Alexander, GOP Representatives John Kline and Duncan Hunter, Democratic Senators Tom Harkin and Jeff Bingaman, and Democratic Representatives George Miller and Dale Kildee.
The same legislators were invited to the White House to work on the education law in the middle of February, but the House members had to make a vote in Congress and couldn’t attend. Still, the White House described the session with the senators who did make it as “productive.”
“The President looks forward to working with this bipartisan group of leaders to revise the federal law so that it is more fair, flexible, and focused on helping all students to graduate ready for college and careers,” the White House said in guidance to reporters for Thursday’s schedule.
