"It was very gratifying to find that he had been apprehended,"said Kildee, D-Flint. "He was one of the greatest evil doers in history of the world."
President Barack Obama announced to the nation late Sunday night that Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, had been killed after a fire fight in Pakistan.
Kildee said he received a phone call of the news moments before Obama addressed the nation.
"It was a well coordinated, great success for the U.S.," said Kildee. "It raises our stature in the world. It shows the U.S. is a country that really can do something."
Kildee said the death of Bin Laden can give the country more hope that it can get the War on Terror under control.
Still, he said, the fight is not over.
"It's going to be a long-term fight," he said. "It's not like a war that comes to an end with the fall Berlin or the surrender of Japan. It's going to be a long, different type of battle."
