GM to add or save 96 jobs at plants in Flint and Bay City
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, General Motors announced that it is investing $109 million plants in Flint and Bay City to handle increasing production of the Chevy Cruz and Volt. The move will add or save 96 jobs at the plants. Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Automotive Caucus and a native of Flint, MI, the birthplace of G.M., hailed the announcement and said he looks forward to continued growth.
“Today’s announcement that GM is investing an additional $109 million in Flint and Bay City is a testament to the skill and dedication of our auto workers. GM knows that as it continues to increase production and expand its workforce, it can depend on the hard workers in our communities to get the job done. I am proud of my role in securing government assistance for our automakers, without which we likely would not be celebrating all this good news.
As I always say what America drives, drives America, and as GM increases production and expands its workforce, it is good news for our local communities our state and our entire Nation. I will do everything I can to keep this good news coming from GM and to help this American icon once again be the economic engine that drives the U.S. economy,” said Congressman Kildee.
Of the $109 million, $84 million will be used at Flint to increase 1.4-liter engine capacity. Bay City's investment of $25 million is for connecting rods and camshafts used in the engine.
