Buena Vista Charter Township Wastewater Improvement Project

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Buena Vista's outdated wastewater treatment system is challenged by severe infiltration-in-flow and sanitary sewer overflow problems. Buena Vista has worked with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to establish a comprehensive set of solutions to these problems. The Township has borrowed $4 million in low interest USDA Rural Facilities loans to begin the system upgrade, but the estimated cost of the upgrade is $16 million. Buena Vista has reached its maximum borrowing capacity in this low-income area. The Township requests assistance to continue the upgrade to this system.
