Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

McLaren Health is building one of the only Proton Beam Therapy & Research Centers in the United States to treat cancer, which is the second major cause of death in developed countries. Proton beam therapy is a form of radiation therapy that involves the delivery.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

New collaborative initiative between Kettering University (lead entity), Oakland University, Michigan Molecular Institute, and Saginaw Valley State University to develop proton exchange membranes and produce prototype membrane electrode assemblies for higher temperature, higher performance and less expensive hydrogen fuel cell stacks. The collaborative will also improve efficiency and longevity of fuel cell catalysts; develop environmentally friendly bioenergy crops to be used as a fuel for hydrogen fuel cells; and develop enhanced performance, longer life membrane materials for next-generation, high power density, lithium-air batteries.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Funds will be used to continue authorized activities on Frankenmuth Dam Fish Passage.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The Hamilton Dam is owned by the City of Flint, Michigan, and has been classified by the State of Michigan dam safety inspection team as a “high hazard potential” dam.  Only one of the six    concrete gates remains functional, and failure may be imminent resulting in loss of life and property.  The Hamilton Dam project was authorized in Section 5003 of the Water Resources Development Act (P.L. 110-114).

Kawkawlin River Flood Control Project

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Funds will be used for maintenance dredging of the Kawkawlin River for flood control purposes. The last maintenance was completed in 1998.

Kearsley Creek Interceptor Project

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The funding would be used for the Kearsley Creek Interceptor project, and would complete construction of 23 miles of sanitary sewer pipe and two pump stations.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The 5 level parking structure located in the heart of the city was constructed in 1972. Since that time the parking structure has deteriorated significantly to the point where the top story of the structure is no longer unusable. Continued deterioration now threatens the use of the entire structure. All expansion joints need replacement. The entire water removal system needs replacing. Several support lines/columns need replacing. Both handicap elevators need replacement. Entire electrical/energy system needs replacement. To ensure the only major parking structure in the City/County of Saginaw is saved a major construction and repair overhaul is required. Engineering estimates have identified what needs to be accomplished and how it is to be accomplished. The funds will be used to repair the deteriorating parking structure and install solar panels to power the facility.

Saginaw River Dredging

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The Saginaw River Channel is a federally authorized commercial navigation project.  Future maintenance dredging is required for navigation to continue at maximum efficiency on the river.
