Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The funding would be used strengthen and expand Flint Institute of Arts’ educational program called ARTreach.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Bay Regional Medical Center’s breast care capabilities are spread across the community and require patients to travel to various locations for comprehensive cancer services.  This funding would allow BRMC to consolidate breast care into a Breast Care Center.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The Crim Fitness Foundation provides physical fitness programs to Flint public elementary schools and runs an adult fitness training program which supports participants in living an active lifestyle.  The funds will allow the school program to expand to junior high and high school and will expand the adult program to year-round activities.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Two-year program to train displaced engineers in the field of education, and then utilize their significant expertise to teach math and science in K-12 schools.  Partnering with the University of Michigan-Flint and Wayne State University.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities Program is a workforce development program and offers career planning, training, and education to Genesee County residents, including dislocated workers, who are seeking careers or advancement in the healthcare field.   Funding will be used for salaries and costs associated with the training and educational services, including case management. 

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Funds will be used to design and implement an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system across the hospital, ambulatory clinics, physician offices, diagnostic and treatment centers, home healthcare sites, and other facilities that collectively make up Genesys Health System.  This project will preserve and create 45 area jobs and will reduce health costs related to patient records.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

The requested funding would be used to complete replacement of Hamilton's oldest 16,000 square foot facility located at 4001 N Saginaw in Flint, Michigan. The facility, constructed over 70 years ago, has housed Hamilton's main service location for twenty years. The 15,000 square foot replacement facility will accommodate 22 medical exam rooms (12 adult/OB, 6 pediatrics, 4 specialty), 10 dental treatment rooms and a retail pharmacy.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Funding would be used for the renovation and expansion of the emergency department and trauma center at Hurley Medical Center. Hurley Medical Center is a non-profit, public medical center located in Flint, Michigan.

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Hurley Medical Center is seeking funds to replace and upgrade its patient monitoring system by 2011.  The project will facilitate the utilization and access of electronic health records, improve patient safety by integrating data across the continuum of care, and introduce cost-saving efficiencies. 

Why is this a good use of taxpayers' dollars:

Funding would be used to develop and implement a workforce development consortium targeted to serving the homeless and ex-offenders.
